These are idioms for beautiful challenges.

• a man of the moment [당대의 인물, 요인]
• He is the man of the moment. [그는 당대의 인물이다.]

 

• a play on words [말재롱; 궤변=a pun]

 

• a snatch of sleep [한잠]

 

• abide by ~ [~을 고수하다, ~을 지키다=keep], [(싫지만) ~에 따르다]
• abide by one’s promise. [약속 지키다]
• abide by the consequences [결과에 따르다]

 

• absence of mind [방심] ↔ presence of mind [침착성]
• The boy had the presence of mind to turn off the gas. [그 사내애가 침착하게도 가스를 껐다.]

 

• act on [upon] [~에 따르다, ~에 따라 행동하다], [~에 작용하다]
• act upon a friend’s advice [친구의 충고에 따르다]

 

• after [in] a fashion [어느 정도, 이럭 저럭=somehow or other]
• He became an artist after a fashion. [그는 이럭저럭 한 화가가 되었다.]

 

• against one’s will [본의 아니게, 의사에 반하여]
• He went out against his will. [그는 본의 아니게 외출했다.]

 

• against the grain [뜻에 반하여, 거슬러]
• It goes against the grain to give up. [항복하는 것은 본의가 아니다.]

 

• all for naught [쓸데 없이, 헛되이=in vain]

 

• all the same [전혀 같은(한가지인)], [그래도(역시), 그럼에도 불구하고]
• It is all the same to me. [나에게는 전혀 같은 일이다.]
