The 14th Body of Original

So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled.

In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river.

The capital was abandoned.

The enemy was advancing.

The snow was stained with blood.

At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

 

"Let it be told to the future world... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

 

America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words.

With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come.

Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

다 함께 우리가 현재 누구이며 또 우리가 얼마나 먼 길을 여행해 왔는지를 기억하며 오늘을 표시해 둡시다.

미국이 건국되는 해의 가장 추웠던 달에 한 무리의 애국자들은 얼어붙은 강가의 꺼져가는 모닥불 옆에 몸을 움츠리고 모였습니다.

“오직 희망과 미덕만이 살아남을 수 있는 한겨울이었지만 공동의 위험에 놀란 도시와 농촌이 모두 그 위험에 맞서기 위해 나섰다는 사실을 미래 세대에게 들려 주도록 합시다.”

 

이것이 바로 미국입니다.

공동의 위험에도 불구하고, 이러한 역경의 겨울에도 불구하고, 이 불멸의 구절들을 기억하도록 합시다.

희망과 미덕을 가지고 다시 한번 살을 에는 듯한 조류에 용감히 맞섭시다.
