In the days ahead I will propose removing the roadblocks that have slowed our economy and reduced productivity.

Steps will be taken aimed at restoring the balance between the various levels of government. Progress may be slow--measured in inches and feet, not miles--but we will progress. Is it time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden.

And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles, there will be no compromise.

 

On the eve of our struggle for independence a man who might have been one of the greatest among the Founding Fathers, Dr. Joseph Warren, President of the Massachusetts Congress, said to his fellow Americans, "Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of....

On you depend the fortunes of America.

You are to decide the important questions upon which rests the happiness and the liberty of millions yet unborn.

Act worthy of yourselves."

앞으로 나는 그동안 우리의 경제를 둔화시키고 생산력을 저하시켜 왔던 장애물을 제거하자고 제안하는 바입니다.

정부의 여러 분야 사이의 균형을 회복하기 위해서 조치들이 취해질 것입니다.

일의 진척은 몇 마일이 아니라, 인치나 피트로 잴 수 있을 만큼 더딜 것이지만, 그러나 우리는 발전할 것입니다. 지금은 이 산업의 거인을 다시 깨우고, 정부를 제 분수에 넘지 않도록 되돌려 놓고, 우리에게 마치 징벌과 같이 과해진 과세의 부담을 줄일 때입니다.
