These United States are confronted with an economic affliction of great proportions.

We suffer from the longest and one of the worst sustained inflations in our national history.

It distorts our economic decisions, penalizes thrift, and crushes the struggling young and the fixed- income elderly alike.

It threatens to shatter the lives of millions of our people.

 

Idle industries have cast workers into unemployment, causing human misery and personal indignity.

Those who do work are denied a fair return for their labor by a tax system which penalizes successful achievement and keeps us from maintaining full productivity.

우리나라의 기업은 계속 발전합니다.

미국은 상당히 어려운 경제적 역경에 처해 있습니다.

우리는 우리나라의 역사상에서 가장 길고도 지속적인 악성 인플레에 의해 고통받고 있습니다.

그것은 우리의 경제적 결정들을 뒤틀어 버리고, 근검 절약을 마비시키고, 분투하는 젊은이들이나 고정된 수입에 의존해서 사는 노인들을 모두 좌절시키고 있습니다.

 

휴업하는 산업들은 일꾼들을 실직시켜서 그들로 하여금 인간 생활의 비참함을 맛보게 하고 개인적 분노를 끓어오르게 했습니다.
